Melissa Abbott
Melissa Abbott began knitting early as a teen and progressed to Master Knitter in recent years. She has taught at various workshops held at Carodan Farm Wool Shop, including SoXperience, KnitXperience, and Sox N More.
Melissa enjoys taking knitting classes and is always looking to incorporate what she learns from her classes into her latest knitting project. She is currently measuring how quickly her sons grow, not with a typical height chart, but by how quickly they grow out of the socks she has knit for them (the last pair was outgrown by the time they were done!).
She has expanded her knitting horizons by designing several original sweaters and socks for Carodan Farm. Melissa is the resident sock expert with Carodan Farm Wool Shop – she knits up many of the samples in the shop as well as tackles the questions sent in from customers. She even has successfully converted her mom, Caroline, to knitting socks using the Magic Loop method. Always looking for new techniques and challenges in the knitting world, she thoroughly enjoys watching how students learn and process the art of knitting.
Along with her passion for knitting, Melissa runs a cake decorating business from her home in Delaware while keeping up with her husband and fast growing sons. |

Mary Kearney, Central Virginia Fiber Mill
Mary Kearney has lived in Greene County with her husband Mark and two children for 22 years. Her interest began with raising angora rabbits. She learned to spin the fiber and realized that the addition of other fibers would make a stronger yarn. Angora goats, from which mohair is harvested, were added to the farm and six years ago alpacas joined the fiber herd. The combination of these three fibers makes a luxurious yarn that can be knitted, woven or felted. They also have a commercial greenhouse on the farm and raise herbs. The herbs have combined nicely with the fibers in natural dying. We are pleased to be the only mill located in Virginia processing exotic fibers such as Alpaca, Llama and Mohair.
